I have CQ next month, my tax information remains incomplete, yard work is demanding my attention and line flying fills my time, so I plan to take a break from writing for a while and simply display some of my photography on a frequent basis above. Hope to see you soon, but in the meanwhile I hope that you enjoy the pics that I put up. Have a great summer!

ReplyDeleteWow, you just summed up exactly what I am going through. Now all I wish is to walk right into that photo and out to my car located about 1/2 mile away in the employee parking lot. Instead I have to deal with multiple overnights at the ROC.

Oooh. Finally a hard one. I thought two things, no clues as to runway or taxiway layout, not even a direction cue. Second... I had an immediate impression from the terrain & trees.

That was my second choice! Seeing Song and Jetblue made me think of KMCO as they competed on the same routes. I think Song was absorbed into Delta about 2006 or 2007?

Hahaha! I saw the picture and decided to let someone else play this time. ;) Actually, I was going to guess MCO too, but considered Boston and FLL. There wasn't much to go on besides the Song/JetBlue hubs, gate layout & a fringe of trees.

ReplyDeleteSomething interesting looking at the release sheet - it's titled Northwest Flight Release and flight number NWA2121, yet the ATC call sign is Delta 2121 - how long before the get all the paperwork to be Delta with the merge?

ReplyDeleteSharp eye! Although we're dispatching with a DAL flight number, the computers haven't caught up yet and we're dispatching under NWA criteria. For the 757, the change over date to DAL dispatch is 11 April. Paperwork is entirely different and I'll experience this near the end of my current trip from HNL to SFO.
Thanks Rand! Be interesting to see the differences if you are able to post a shot when you have DAL paperwork.

Couple things clued me in, or at least led me to the right guess. First, I guessed domestic just from the look of the tug. I would also have guessed domestic because of the 757, but you guys take those everywhere these days, so that's out.
ReplyDeleteWith the UAL 744, I figured some type of Asia and/or Hawaii service, which means fairly substantial hub, at least with a plane that size. The sky isn't orange, so it's not LAX.
Clearly not ORD or anywhere east with the rising terrain. Then I remembered those hills as being very similar to the ones John Wayne and Robert Stack barely cleared in a DC-4 inbound from Hawaii (everybody whistle along...)to SFO.
I'm guessing ATL, just because it looks muggy!

ReplyDeleteNice clear shot of the panel. ( Too easy, Tim. ) I'm always impressed by the nose-up AoA at high altitude for jets. Seems inefficient. You'd think Boeing would fix that, with neg. flap settings or something.
ReplyDeleteYeah but I'm lazy, so it works out OK. I noticed the slightly high AoA too and wondered about it. Seems like they should be climbing. How much of lift is AoA and how much is due to airfoil physics and all that Bernoulli stuff? How can airplanes fly up-side-down anyway?... Guess I'll leave the flying to the pros!

Just got home from a trip. I'm constantly amazed at how detail oriented people are when studying a photo. . Sarah, Joe and Tim, you should be detectives! Yes, were over GEG on the GLASR7 arrival into SEA. I agree, the pitch up is interesting, but other than its indication on an instrument, the pilot doesn't notice it otherwise. Something to do with the angle of incidence.

Yup, that looks like the Lindbergh Terminal (excuse me, Terminal 1 now!)That would be a DC-9-?? Sure looks like a -41 or -50 to me... I'm much better at geography than the subtleties of airliner identification.
ReplyDeleteYes, of course it's the corrugated MSP terminal. And I'd better not get this guess wrong ( A friend literally wrote the squadron picture book on the DC9/MD80 ) but I'd say it's a -51 based on the antenna locations and NC history.

ReplyDeleteIt is definately MSP. The font of the lettering on the buidling is the same as the ficticous "Lincoln International Airport" in the original "Airport" movie. The model of the -9 is a -50 that was an original North Central bird. The forward strakes below the cockpit and the N-number give it away.
