He was hired on at NEA around 48/49 and flew out of NE area airports till sometime in late 68, whereby we moved to the New pilot base in MIA; he medically retired in OCT of 1977 of the B-727. For those that flew with Buzz know that he referred to his Son's with a number, I'm #5, Duncan. I'm the only one of his six children that decided to make flying a career. I started with Southern Express Airways out off MIA in the spring of 1983 and then on to Eastern Airlines in FEB 1986, then went to Pan Am Airways after the strike and finally ending up at United Airlines in FEB 1991. I finish up 41+ years of airline flying in OCT 2024 out of SFO, what a ride. Thanks for the opportunity to leave a comment. Stews couldn't marry, no pierced ears, hair off collar, nail polish, girdles and mandatory retirement at 28. I can remember faces and incidents vividly but many names are no longer in my memory bank. I can recall Helen Chase retiring the last DC-3 from the fleet. And I flew with Jack Rapsis more than once so that tragedy is vivid in my mind. We all had favorite crews and were able to bid with them back then. I lived in Winthrop with a group of other stews and I remember them well. Anyone remember the Skyway Lounge (think that was its name)? We had to take off our hats and wings in order to hang out. They made killer martinis. There was a chapel at Logan called Our Lady of the Airways. Gone are the days......but somewhere there will always be a DC-3 flying. Who is still out there? All of the aforementioned pilots were favorite story telling’s by my Dad, about the old days when I was young. My Dad retired from Northeast Airlines in 1959 with seniority # of 6.

Fortunately, I had the pleasure of flying S/O and F/O with most of them when I was flying with Northeast. I remember Pappy just before he retired off of the DC6-B; I was his S/O a few months before he retired.

When you were almost hired by Delta in 1978, I was a B-727 Capt., thanks to the NEA & Delta merger in 1972.
